Ok, so I know I said I was keeping this to just Genealogy… but I warned you, my life takes over! LOL! I have 3 “hobbies” – the first is Genealogy, the second is Scrapbooking and the third is Couponing! For years I tried to coupon, & just couldn’t get it, it never mad sense to me! After 19 years of being married a friend was couponing & saved loads of money every week. So I gave it another shot. I only saved $15… I was gonna quit! “Not worth my time!” I said. But I decided to give it a go & try again… The second time I save about $50, ok so it’s getting better… but still not worth my time!! Marty encouraged me to try a third time… I agreed! 3rd Shopping trip… My order came to $312.23; I paid $164.58!!! Savings of $147.65!!! WOWser!! That is sooooooooooo worth my time!!! That was June 2011, from that time until October of 2011 I saved enough money for my husband to purchase his road bike & pay for his insurance. Over the last year I’ve saved over $2,000 (probably more). I went for about 9-10 weeks without going shopping (except for milk, pop & bread) & Friday I went again. I was really thinking I was going to do very bad because I hadn’t gone in so long…. My bill came to $465.39, after coupons it was $215.57!!! That’s a 51% savings!!! Whoop whoop!!! I even got some Catalina’s worth $8.75 on my next shopping order!!! 😀 I am one happy momma!! I filled the back of my van full!!!
Some of my better savings were Hefty Ziplock bags for 19 cents, Brut Men’s deodorant FREE, Dial Liquid hand soap for 30 cents, Heinz Vinegar for 89 cents, King’s Hawaiian Bun for 69 cents, DeWafelbakker Buttermilk pancakes for $1.59, 12 pack of Double roll of Cottonelle Toilet paper for $4.99, 2 liters of Siera Mist for 40 cents, a 12 pack of Siera Mist for $1, Werther’s Candy for $1, Tom’s of Maine Deodorant for 86 cents, and Tom’s of Maine toothpaster for $1!
I don’t buy something if we don’t have a coupon for it, with the exception of milk & produce. If I don’t have a coupon for it & need it, then I buy off brand. It has cut back on splurging on things we don’t need, it also helps our cupboards over flow with bounty….
I know how it is when you try to write about one thing and end up writing about something else. I too love coupons and have been struggling with it not being worth my while until recently when I re-committed and seriously now that I am nolonger working I have the time. The only thing that hampers me is my chronic pain, but I find focusing on other things helps. Well here I am rambling what I wanted to say is I really liked your post and I am glad it was on coupons cause thats one of my fav hobbies that and scrapbooking, but I am not much on geneology. LOL Keep updatting us on your coupon adventures, ok.
